Former Miss World titleholders shine during Cannes Film Festival

Aishwarya Rai and Zhang Zilin are in Cannes for the 64th Cannes Film Festival, the world’s most famous celebration of cinema, which runs until the 22nd May. Over the weekend, Bollywood superstar Aishwarya has been lighting up the famous red carpet up to the Grand Théâtre Lumière, where the films in competition for the main festival prize, the Palme D’Or, are screened.

Zilin, who recently saw her first feature film “Underdog Knight 2″ released in cinemas across China, following premieres and press tours in Beijing and Shanghai. Miss World 1994 and Miss World 2007 are both spokespersons for L’Oréal Paris, official partner of the Cannes Film Festival and sponsors of the Opening and Closing nights.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival President of the Jury is actor and filmmaker Robert De Niro, while some of the stars who have already made appearances at premieres for their films screening at the festival include Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, and Penelope Cruz.

Miss Supranational South Africa is Dhesha Jeram

 

2010 Miss South Africa runner-up, Dhesha Jeram, will be South Africa’s representative at the 2011 Miss Supranational pageant to be held Aug. 27 in Poland. 23-year-old Dhesha lives in Constantia, Cape Town and has a B.Com degree in Economics and Management. Her hobbies include dancing, gym, art and reading.

She was selected by license-holders South African Beauties to compete at the pageant

Road To Miss World 2011

Miss Italia nel Mondo 2011 to be held at the Lungomare Falcomata, Reggio di Calabria, June 25

 

The 20th anniversary edition of the Miss Italia nel Mondo beauty pageant will be held Saturday, June 25, at the Lungomare Falcomata, a popular beachfront, located in the Calabria region in Southern Italy.

40 beauties of italian ancestry from all over the world will compete in the annual event, created by Enzo Mirigliani in 1991.
Authorities at Reggio Calabria are excited about this year’s event, which will be telecast worldwide through RAI Italia.  This exposure will be of outstanding promotion for the region.
Mirigliani is also the organizer of the official “Miss Italia” pageant, which used to send the winners to the Miss Universe competition until 1999.
The reigning Miss Italia nel Mondo is Kimberly Castillo Mota, from the Dominican Republic.

News Road To Miss World 2011

Miss World Philippines finals to be held Sept. 18

 

 

Cory Quirino, Miss World franchise holder for the Philippines, has been busy lining up sponsors, designers and professionals in every area to deliver a first class event. The screening process will take place until the end of  July, with a pre-pageant press conference taking place on August 17th.  After a series of activities and media events, the finals of Miss World Philippines 2011 will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on Sunday, September 18th.  The winner will represent the country at the 61st Miss World beauty pageant to take place in London, UK, on November 8th.

Miss T&T Universe 2011 is Gabrielle Walcott

 

26-year old Gabrielle Walcott, from Petit Valley, Trinidad, won the Miss T&T Universe 2011 pageant held May 14th at the O2 Park in Chaguaramas. The 1st runner-up was Shinequa Francis, and the 2nd runner-up was La Tisha Hospedales. Eight finalists were selected to compete in the event.

Standing 1.68 m in height, Gabrielle will represent Trinidad & Tobago at the 2011 Miss Universe pageant to he held next September.

She also represented T&T at the Miss World 2008 pageant held in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she came in 3rd place.

Miss Vietnam Universe 2011 is My Hoang Vu

 

Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture has approved permision to Vu Hoang My, 1st runner-up at the Miss Vietnam 2010 pageant, to represent the country in the 2011 Miss Universe competition in Sao Paulo, from August 20 to September 12.

The owners of the Miss Universe franchise in Vietnam submitted all the neccessary paperwork for approval at the beginning of May. Since 2009, all Vietnamese contestants abroad are subjected to the conditions stated by the Ministry of Culture, in order to control the number of beauty competitions that take place in Vietnam yearly.
Vu Hoang My is 23 years old and stands 1.71 m tall. She is a student at RMIT University.
Hoang My was supposed to represent Vietnam at the Miss Asia Pacific World pageant in Korea this June; after this contest got postponed -it was moved to October-, she will attend Miss Universe instead.

Parliament United to honor Kaiane Aldorino

 

Former Miss World, Gibraltarian Kaiane Aldorino is to be conferred the Honorary Freedom of the City. To this end, Chief Minister Peter Caruana is to bring a motion to Parliament to confer the Honorary Freedom of the City of Gibraltar, and thus also the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour on Kaiane Aldorino for “her extraordinary personal achievement in becoming Miss World 2009/10 and for the enormous pride and global recognition that her achievement has represented for Gibraltar as a whole.”

The Opposition moved swiftly to state that it will support the motion when this comes before Parliament.

“When Kaiane won the Miss World Crown it was a remarkable achievement for such a small territory as Gibraltar and she proved to be a wonderful ambassador for her country. This is the very least that we can do to thank her for putting Gibraltar on the map,” said the Opposition.
