Miss Malawi: ‘Yes I shoved Miss New Zealand’

Miss Malawi Susan Mtegha has admitted that she pushed Miss New Zealand during the Miss World 2012 grand finale held last Saturday in China.

She told The Weekend Times that she did so as it was her time to be on the spot.

“It is true I pushed Miss New Zealand but not because I was rude but because she was in my close up spot. Each contestant had only 30 seconds to be seen by the world. I told her to move but she didn’t so I had to push her aside otherwise I would have missed my close up.”

The 24-year-old Malawi queen added that later at the back stage the Miss World stage director acknowledged that she was right by pushing her to the side.

“It was said time and time again during rehearsals that no one at any point shall be in a fellow contestants’ close up mark and that if that happens, you had the right to push them to the side and that is what I did,” she said.

Mtegha said it was sad to note that some of her fellow Malawians wanted her to stand in the background whilst they had mentioned her name.

She said she apologised to her later for her action but insisted she was simply following procedures and that Miss New Zealand also admitted to her she was wrong.

“I understood her because being a world event where you are being seen by millions of people, you panic so that’s what happened to her and she failed to move,” said the Malawi queen revealing that Miss New Zealand was one of her friends.

She said she was in the same group with Miss New Zealand since all contestants were divided into groups of three.

“It’s a shame it had to happen that way but between us there are no hard feelings. We had contestants stepping on other dresses and falling over that is how hectic it was but the world couldn’t have seen this because it was backstage.

“All these were accidents that occur during the pageant,” said Mtegha whose roommate was Miss Botswana and that her close friends were Miss Nepal, Mongolia, Tanzania and Uganda.

Mtegha. who is currently in China and failed to come back home on Wednesday after she fainted at the airport leading to her missing the flight said:

“I am fine. It was a once off thing as I have never fainted before and this was due to exhaustion and lack of sleep. I must admit it takes a lot to prepare for the competition and my body just couldn’t take it anymore.”

She said that she fainted at the bathroom after she checked in and was getting ready to go to the boarding gate.

“I felt dizzy and wanted to go and wash my face that is when it happened. Malawians should not worry much as I am fine. I went to the Malawian Embassy here in Beijing and I am being hosted by the Malawian Bello family and I am very grateful to them,” said Mtegha.

Mtegha will be with the Bello family until her flight is rescheduled and she is not sure when will be home.  http://www.bnltimes.com

Former Miss USA arrested for drunk driving

Police arrested former Miss USA and Michigan’s own Rima Fakih for drunk driving in Highland Park.
It happened early Saturday morning on Woodward Avenue.
Fakih's attorney confirmed the incident with Action News.
Sources say she blew a .20, which is more than twice Michigan’s legal limit. She spent most of Saturday in jail.
On her Twitter and Facebook accounts, Fakih claimed throughout most of the day that she was out of state and that it was a different Fakih.
Those posts have since disappeared.
Fakih’s attorney says Rima was pulled over and had been driving with a friend to another friend’s house.
Fakih is said to be very upset and wants to apologize to her fans.

Gara-gara Narkoba, Ratu Kopi Kolombia Divonis Penjara

Mantan ratu kecantikan Kolombia, Angie Sabclemente Valencia, kini harus hidup di hotel prodeo setelah divonis tujuh tahun penjara oleh pengadilan Argentina, Kamis (3/11) waktu setempat. Angie dinyatakan bersalah terlibat sindikat narkotika internasional.

Namun Angie membantah semua tuduhan tersebut. Ia menegaskan kedatangannya ke Argentina adalah untuk menikahi sang pacar Nicolas Gualco, yang belakangan diketahuinya merupakan anggota sindikat narkotika. Angie mengatakan kesalahan yang dilakukannya adalah jatuh cinta kepada Gualco.

Namun semua pembelaan yang diungkapkan tidak mampu menghindari Angie dari jerat hukum. Pengadilan yakin Angie telah membantu kekasihnya itu merekrut gadis-gadis cantik untuk menyelundupkan narkotika ke Eropa.

Pada tahun 2000 Angie memenangkan kontes Ratu Kopi Kolombia, sebuah kontes kecantikan yang cukup populer di negara itu. Namun gelar itu dicabut karena ketahuan dirinya telah menikah, syarat yang dilanggar dalam kontes ini.

Miss Asia Pacific World: a shameful contest

Miss Asia Pacific World: a shameful contestEarlier this year, a man by the name of Lawrence Choi launched a contest which was supposed to be the revival of the traditional Miss Asia Pacific. He promised national directors from around the world air tickets for the candidates, great cash prizes, and worldwide broadcast of a “magnificent event” to be held in South Korea.

The pageant, which was supposed to happen in the first semester, took place only in October after moving the date three times. First Warning.

Just when the chosen contestants were preparing to fly to the pageant in May, another email was sent to national directors saying: “The competition will be held in October, and the directors will have to pay for the delegates’ airfare (going against what had been originally offered)”.  Most directors immediately withdrew.  After all these delegates were removed from the pageant’s website, on their Facebook page, organizers said “it had been the work of a ‘hacker’”. They never explained that such candidates had withdrawn from the competition due to their lack of  organization and word.

But all of that was nothing compared to what the 40+ candidates had to face once they arrived  in Korea.

For instance, Miss Venezuela placed second in the “talent competition”, without having performed! The girls had to sleep on the floor, as there were not enough beds in their hotel rooms; they barely had enough food to eat. And it does not end there: Amy Willerton, the British candidate, fled the competition along with other girls after being offered votes in exchange for sex (READ HERE).

Miss Guyana published a series of videos on Youtube showing some of the most absurd situations which took place in this event.In the end, an all-Korean panel of judges chose Miss Korea as the winner, something that, at that point, really did not matter (candidates who saw the voting sheets claimed the Korean contestant placed 3rd in reality). Some girls took days to be allowed to return home, because the “host hotel” held them back for not paying their hotel bills, which was of the pageant organizers’ responsibilities.
It is important to note that Mr Choi used the “Miss Asia Pacific” name without legal permit, once this scam clearly has nothing to do with the real Miss Asia Pacific pageant, ran by Filipinos. Things became even worse when the organization added “World” to the pageant’s name, after all, Miss World Asia Pacific is the title the best ranked candidate in the region gets in the Miss World competition.

Earlier this year, Global Beauties was invited to cover and give promotion to this pageant, but refused to do so. It was finally covered by a fan page which shamefully appears as one of the pageant’s “sponsors”.

Lawrence Choi blamed the local committees in each of the three Korean cities for the pageant’s fiasco. However, the man had plenty of time to organize the pageant, which had been originally scheduled for June 4, and it was HIS PAGEANT, which means, it was his responsibility. The winner, Park Sae-Byul, resigned after she found out that organizers would not give her any of the promised prizes -- US$ 30 thousand in cash + US$ 170 thousand in “goods” (whatever that means). None of the winners would receive their prizes after Choi declared the pageant “a failure”.

At the moment, several organizations are taking legal matters against this pageant, among them the owners of the original “Miss Asia Pacific” trademark.  Also, a considerable amount of directors who sent delegates to this event have also been sounding off in social media, explaining the situation.

We hope this horrible pageant episode ends in the courts and that Mister Choi and all the parties involved pay for their crimes.

It will serve as an alert to pageant directors: they should be careful with “new pageants” they send their candidates to. Clearly the 47 women who participated in Korea ran serious risk away from home.
