Miss Jamaica 2012 To Be Chosen Early

Cindy Breakspeare is one of three Jamaicans who were crowned Miss World. She won the title in 1976.

With Jamaica’s 50th Year of Independence celebrations under way and with the Summer Olympics falling in the midst of those celebrations, Jamaica also anticipates the staging of the most prestigious beauty pageant in the country.
The Miss Jamaica World (MJW) pageant is set to climax with the Grand Coronation Show on June 2.
Jamaica is an island filled with people not only of varied talents and skill sets but also with beauty.
This year, the MJW team is doubling its efforts to crown a queen who will take home the crown for a fourth time, the first since Lisa Hanna in 1993.
Jamaica’s 50th anniversary, an astounding medal haul at the Olympics and Miss Jamaica as Miss World would make for a brilliant year.
With bigger and more exciting plans in store, Miss Jamaica World franchise holder, Mickey Haughton James, CD, stated, “The drive is on to bring on board sponsors and potentially a title sponsor to enable us to do a special event for Jamaica’s 50. Efforts are being made to stream the event live to the diaspora.”
Happy to be on board
One company which has realised the vision and is once again happy to be on board is the Carimed/Venus Embrace family.
Recently, reigning Miss Jamaica World Danielle Crosskill, alongside newly appointed pageant director Regina Beavers met with Varia Rodney, senior brand manager at Cari-Med to welcome the Cari-Med family back on board. Rodney presented the two with a cheque for $350,000.
This year, the organisation will remain title sponsor of the Beach Beauty competition.
“We have aligned ourselves with our target market; not only the girls that enter the competition but the ones who also watch. We are excited about being on board because MJW signifies beauty with a purpose and fits well with the tag line of Venus Embrace ‘Reveal the Goddess in you’,” said Rodney.
Since the Miss World organisation has rescheduled its dates, the coronation show for the local pageant which is usually set in August or September had to be moved up to facilitate the process of choosing a new queen.
Pre-selections will start as early as Saturday and continue on every
Saturday for the month of March. The final selection of the finalists who will vie for the Miss World crown will be held on Saturday, April 28.
If chosen as pre-selected finalists, the girls will receive free gym training at Spartan Health Club as well as free grooming lessons.
The race is on to see who will be Jamaica’s new queen to commemorate 50 years of Independence.

Top News Pageant : Hungary chooses most beautiful wheelchair user

BUDAPEST, Hungary — Many beauty queens may wish for world peace, but Hungary’s loveliest wheelchair user has a more achievable goal in mind.
In an event unusual for Eastern Europe, the winner of a Hungarian beauty pageant for wheelchair users said Saturday she will be an advocate for improving access conditions for the disabled in the country.
Miss Colours organizer Tibor Kazany said the pageant is the first such event in Europe and will be repeated annually. In the U.S., the first Ms. Wheelchair America pageant was held in 1973.
Katalin Eszter Varga was chosen by a jury from among the eight finalists who rolled on stage in choreographed moves set to music by Maroon 5 and Rihanna and wore dresses from leading Hungarian designer Katti Zoob.
Varga, a 26-year-old perfume saleswoman who has been using a wheelchair for four years, said there is a lot of work to be done in Hungary to improve wheelchair access.
“It’s hard to access many buildings, bathrooms for the disabled are badly designed and there are few domestic hotels offering wheelchair access,” Varga said after the pageant. “I have many hopes that all this will change.”
The finalists, chosen from more than 50 entrants, received personalized services from hair stylists, makeup artists and photographers.
“It was great to be surrounded by professionals and it was wonderful to see us becoming more and more beautiful,” said second runner-up Marietta Molnar, who competes in wheelchair fencing and basketball and co-founded Hungary’s first competitive rugby team on wheelchairs. “It is important for me to be seen everywhere as a woman, not as just someone in a wheelchair.”
Kazany, the event organizer and a wheelchair user himself since a road accident several years ago, said he got the idea for the pageant from his American business partners.
“Our main goal was to show that women in wheelchairs are just as healthy and beautiful as those walking around on two legs,” said Kazany, who runs a wheelchair distributor. “You don’t have to be sorry for women in wheelchairs because they can be just as healthy and attractive as other women.”
Erika Bogan, Ms. Wheelchair America 2010, was expected to be in the Miss Colours jury, but organizers said she was forced to cancel her trip at the last moment for personal reasons. Bogan has been invited back for next year’s event.
