20-year old Lujza Strakova, from Banská Bystrica, was crowned “Miss Slovensko 2015” at the Incheba Expo in Bratislava last Saturday.  Lujza, who also won the awards of “Miss Congeniality” and “Miss Gosh” (Hair) will represent Slovakia at the 2015 Miss World contest in December.

Miss World Colombia 2012

Miss World Colombia 2012 was crowned in a private ceremony which took place earlier this week, and she is Barbara Turbay, 19, a Communication university student who from Bogota currently residing in Miami.

Because of Miss World’s calendar change (it will happen in July/August for the first time ever), just like several other countries, Colombia organized a special casting call to choose its representative in Miss World 2012. The winner of Miss World Colombia, which will happen on the second semester, will compete in Miss World 2013.

Barbara Turbay will represent Colombia in Ordos, China, where Miss World 2012 will be held. Miss World 2012 will be crowned on August 18.

Miss World Ivian Sarcos to visit Fiji

FIJI will play host to the reigning Miss World next month. Miss Venezuela Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares will be guest at the Miss World Fiji pageant.

Miss World Fiji national director Andhy Blake said Miss Colmenares’ visit could be seen as a privilege for the 20 semi-finalists.

“She (Miss World) will be able to share on the amount of charity work she is involved in.”Our girls will realise that Miss World is not just about beauty, it is also about charity. “The visit will help build confidence in our girls and encourage them to try out for next year.”

Fiji returns to the Miss World competition after an absence of 8 years. Their last contestant took part on the 2004 edition. The finals of Miss World Fiji will be held on April 21st, with the winner going on to compete in the 62nd Miss World finals in Ordos, China.

Miss World wins judicial battle against Teen pageant

Miss World Limited, the owner of a number of trade mark registrations for the mark MISS WORLD, has just won a judicial battle against a Teen pageant based in the USA. Among Miss World’s registrations is a United States trade mark  for MISS WORLD (no. 877221), which was first registered on 5 April 1968. Therefore, there could never be a “Miss Teen World”, if not organized by the Miss World Organization.

Miss World Limited has extensively used and developed its brand over the past 60 years, which has become a famous and well-respected trademark. Over the years, many new pageants and so-called organizations have tried to take advantage of it (just like it happens with Miss Universe as well), so Miss World Limited has always strongly protected its brand and defended its long-standing exclusive rights to the MISS WORLD name and trade mark.

After a two year Federal Court lawsuit and trial in the United States, Miss World won it and the pageant formerly known as “Miss Teen World” produced by Gaspar Cruz has no right to use such name any longer.

The Court found in favor of the Miss World organisation on all its claims of federal trade mark infringement, dilution and unfair competition. Crucially, United States District Judge Vanessa D. Gilmore also found that as a result of Miss World’s continuous usage and promotion, “the MISS WORLD mark has become well-known and famous in the United States and internationally”.

The Court also went on to find that Mr Cruz’s use of the word “world” as part of his competitions as a trade marked name or as a title for his pageant winners caused actual confusion amongst the public and led to actual contempt of the Court’s earlier injunction.

The United States litigation highlighted Mr Cruz’s unauthorised international licensing of “Miss Teen World” where third parties are using the “Miss Teen World” name to run branded competitions in their own countries. The Court order enjoined Mr Cruz and all those acting in concert with or behalf of him from a number of activities including  using the “Miss Teen World” name or any name which is similar to the MISS WORLD mark or likely to dilute its distinctive quality.

Miss World Limited takes the protection of its intellectual property and famous brand very seriously and will take any required action against an infringer of its MISS WORLD mark.

Such judicial decision should set an example and stop others from stealing intellectual property from Miss Universe, Miss World, or any other pageant.(Global Beauties)

Miss World 1993 Lisa Hanna appointed Jamaica’s Minister of Youth and Culture

 

Lisa Hanna, who was crowned Miss World in 1993, was recently appointed the new Minister of Youth and Culture of Jamaica.  During her tenure, she plans to develop and explore more cultural industries as part of the new administration’s strategy for economic growth.

Hanna is a communications consultant and has been involved in her country’s politics for quite some time

JUMLAH kontestan Miss World 2011 mengalami peningkatan dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya. Tahun ini yang berpartisipasi sebanyak 118 finalis, sementara Miss World 2010 diikuti 115 wanita cantik.

November mendatang, ajang Miss World 2011 siap dihelat di London, Inggris. Sebanyak 118 wanita cantik dari seantero dunia akan bersaing menjadi yang terbaik menggantikan posisi Miss World 2010 Alexandria Mills.

Dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya yang diikuti 115 finalis, jumlah peserta Miss World 2011 mengalami peningkatan. Ini berarti persaingan akan semakin ketat, di mana masing-masing finalis akan unjuk gigi dalam setiap babak penjurian selama karantina Miss World. Adapun untuk Indonesia akan diwakil Astrid Ellena. Miss Indonesia 2011 yang kerap disapa Ellen ini akan unjuk prestasi terbaik di ajang Miss World yang tahun ini memasuki penyelenggaraan ke-61.
 
Sosok pemilik nama lengkap Astrid Ellena Indriana Yunadi ini terpilih menjadi pemenang di acara final Miss Indonesia, Central Park Ballroom, Jakarta, 3 Juni silam. Ellen sukses melewati setiap tahap penjurian, mulai dari babak 10 besar hingga tiga besar Miss Indonesia 2011.

Former Miss World titleholders shine during Cannes Film Festival

Aishwarya Rai and Zhang Zilin are in Cannes for the 64th Cannes Film Festival, the world’s most famous celebration of cinema, which runs until the 22nd May. Over the weekend, Bollywood superstar Aishwarya has been lighting up the famous red carpet up to the Grand Théâtre Lumière, where the films in competition for the main festival prize, the Palme D’Or, are screened.

Zilin, who recently saw her first feature film “Underdog Knight 2″ released in cinemas across China, following premieres and press tours in Beijing and Shanghai. Miss World 1994 and Miss World 2007 are both spokespersons for L’Oréal Paris, official partner of the Cannes Film Festival and sponsors of the Opening and Closing nights.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival President of the Jury is actor and filmmaker Robert De Niro, while some of the stars who have already made appearances at premieres for their films screening at the festival include Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, and Penelope Cruz.

Launched The Miss World Philippines

A brand-new condominium unit and P1 million in cash are among the prizes awaiting the Philippine representative to the Miss World pageant this year as new organizers have taken over the search from its longtime franchise holder.

Media personality and wellness advocate Cory Quirino formally launched the Miss World-Philippines search last week, promising that it would be conducted with “a meaningful purpose.”  “It is high time to make a Filipina’s dreams come true, a lady who will embody the true spirit of Filipino womanhood, one who will proudly represent her country while utilizing her beauty to inspire, to help, and to heal,” Ms. Quirino told reporters.
Last January, Ms. Quirino’s CQ Global Quest bagged the franchise to conduct the search that will determine the Philippine representative to the Miss World contest, considered the oldest surviving major international beauty pageant. It was created in 1951 while Miss Universe was created in 1952 and Miss International started in 1960.

Ms. Morley was in Manila for the first time last January to award the Miss World license to Ms. Quirino’s CQ Global Quest.
Ms. Quirino admits that she was initially hesitant to accept the franchise to handle Miss World. But seeing the need to emphasize “beauty in giving,” she decided to accept the challenge.
“With more than 15 years as an officer serving Rotary International Districts 3818 and 3830, I have found the focus on community development by the organizers of Miss World congruent with my continuing advocacies,” Ms. Quirino said. “It’s my commitment to be a catalyst for women and children’s health, development and empowerment. Sociocivic undertakings will be a core activity of Miss World Philippines.”
Miss World-Philippines is currently accepting applications at the secretariat at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) at the CCP Complex in Pasay City, and through its official Web site www.missworldphilippines.com.
Ms. Quirino said the search is open to all single, natural-born female Filipinos aged 17 to 24 years old. “We will hold auditions in select SM Malls in key cities nationwide to encourage more women to join,” she explained.
The finals night will be held on July 30 at the PICC. It will be aired on GMA Network, Inc.’s Channel 7.

Result Finals : Miss Israel 2011

Ella Ran was crowned Miss Israel 2011 at the Haifa Convention Center in Haifa on March 29, 2011. She is 21 year old and stands 1.82 m. Ella Ran will represent Israel in Miss World 2011 pageant.
The first 1st runner up was Kim Edri. She is 18 year old and stands 1.75 m. Kim Edri will represent Israel in Miss Universe 2011. The 2nd runner up was Bar Marom. She is 20 year old and stands 1.70 m. The 3rd runner-up was Kim Akafi. She is 17 year old and stands 1.70 m.
