Miss Universe 2012 to be held in Las Vegas?

According to Eddy Martin, columnist of the Yahoo! Blog “Lo que te Perdiste” (What you have missed), the 2012 Miss Universe pageant could return to the city of lights, Las Vegas, this coming December.
Following the announcement of the Miss USA contest to be held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on June 3rd, Martin adds that a very reliable source from the MUO organization, revealed that the Miss Universe pageant could come back to Las Vegas.
If confirmed, it would be the fourth time in history Las Vegas will welcome the international contest. It was held in Sin City in 1991, 1996 and 2010.
No official announcement has been made about a host city yet, however, all national directors were informed weeks ago that the Miss Universe competition has been moved to mid-December.
All kinds of rumours surrounding this year’s venue have made headlines on the internet, including the possibility of Sun City (South Africa), Guadalajara (Mexico) and the Atlantis Resort (Bahamas).
Martin also added to his blog that the announcement of the 2012 Miss Universe Host City will be made during the conclusion of the Miss USA 2012 telecast, to take place Sunday June 3rd on NBC.

Former Miss Universe Reunion In L.A

Former Misses Universe reunion in L.A.

In its 60th edition, unfortunately MUO did not invite former titleholders to celebrate the special occasion, in São Paulo, earlier this month. However, some of them organized their own reunion, in L.A., and had a great time as they watched Miss Universe 2011, won by Angola’s Leila Lopes.
On the photo above, from left to right: Corinna Tsopei (1964, Greece), Armi Kuusela (1952, Finland), Sylvia Hitchcock (1967, USA), Janelle Commissiong (1977, Trinidad & Tobago), Margaret Gardiner (1978, South Africa), Mona Grudt (1990, Norway), Michelle McLean (1992, Namibia), Chelsi Smith (1995, USA). Also present at the event were Brook Lee (1997, USA), and Justine Pasek (2002, Panama).

In the US, Miss U 2011 is the least watched in history

In the US, Miss U 2011 is the least watched in history

Celebrating its 60th edition, Miss Universe 2011 was watched by less Americans than even in history. the 2011 Miss Universe Pageant drew a 1.6 adults 18-49 18-49 rating, down 16% vs. last year and its lowest rated show ever. NBC placed 2nd among the American tv networks, behind ABC.
Months earlier, the Miss USA pageant celebrated high ratings thanks to much appreciated (and needed) innovations and a well-produced event. Miss Universe did not follow its pattern, as expected by pageant fans from around the globe, and suffered with a tremendous lack of interest from the general US public.

Miss Finland Pia Pakarinen gives up Title

No longer Miss Finland
HELSINKI, September 16 – Upon returning from Sao Paulo, Brazil, after competing in the Miss Universe pageant, Pia Pakarinen announced publicly, on national television, her decision to give up the Miss Finland 2011 title.
Between tears, Pakarinen mentioned that the last months were very hard and that she had virtually no support to prepare herself for the Miss Universe pageant held on September 12th, where she walked out from empty-handed.
She also had problems with organizers, who she says still owe her money. “I want to thank all the people who supported me in one way or the other, but I am no longer able to bear this crown”, said Pakarinen.
“Being Miss Universe is something that would have been amazing as a career, but I missed it. Now, I close this episode in my life, and as I close this door, I am sure a lot of new doors will open for me”.
She mentioned that the national organization does not put the needed importance into their titleholders. “They don’t even work full time, and it’s not possible to do everything by myself. I believe the pageant should change completely, be new, modern, current”.
“I am much more relaxed and can breathe freely” said Pakarinen before getting a huge round of applause.
Upon her abdication, her 1st runner-up Sara Sieppi has been named the new Miss Finland and will represent the country at the Miss World pageant in November. ILTASANOMAT

Miss Universe 2013: Panama rejects Venue offer

Donald J. Trump with Miss Panama Sheldry Saez during the opening of the Trump Ocean Club last July
What seemed like a done deal, and even of bigger expectation with the classification of Miss Panama in the Top 10 of the recently held Miss Universe pageant, went to shambles after government authorities in the country announced that Panama will not hold the competition in 2013, something that had been confirmed previously.
On Thursday, Salo Shamah, head of Panama’s Tourism Administration, confirmed to newspaper “Mi Diario” that Miss Universe Organization directors held several reunions with Panama authorities and that 2013 had always been the designated year, since according to them, 2012 is ‘already taken’.
After conversations with the President Ricardo Martinelli, the government of Panama, decided this week, that is in no position to hold the Miss Universe pageant in 2013. According to Shamah, the contest was asking for the astrominical fee of USD 12 million, an amount of money that the Government cannot afford to spend at this moment.   “We don’t even have 12 million dollars for our annual advertising budget”, added Shamah.
He also said that chances that the private business take over the initiative are not optimistic. “Even if private companies were able to fund half the money that is needed, it is still a big hit to our Government’s budget”.
He considered that the few minutes that showcase the country during the telecast are not worth that much money, and also that ‘most viewers of this contest are people from Asia, who have no direct flights to our country’.
Donald Trump came to Panama in July for the inauguration of the Trump Ocean Club. During those days, he reunited with President Ricardo Martinelli who was excited about the idea; however, the priority of the national budget is destined to the finalization of Panama’s Subway System, scheduled to open its first line in 2014.  Apparently, during those days, there were no talks about money.

Alasan Kuat Asia Jarang Menangi Miss Universe

SEJAUH perhelatan Miss Universe ke-60, kontestan asal negara Latin selalu unggul, entah hanya di posisi runner up ataupun menjadi pemenang. Bagaimana peluang kontestan asal negara-negara Asia?

Perhelatan Miss Universe 2011 berhasil menemukan pemenangnya, Leila Lopes asal Angola.
